WELCOME and thank you for your interest in Memorial Day! Please consider signing the petition to restore Memorial Day back to its original day, May 30th.

2008 is the 140th anniversary of General John Logan's General Order No. 11, issued in 1868, which declared May 30th as Decorations Day (now known as Memorial Day). Let's take full advantage of the anniversary!
 

We must take into consideration the number of men and women we have lost in all wars this country has been involved in. We must take into consideration what they sacrificed as they went to war to defend our freedoms.

The United States has lost over one million fifeteen thousand men and women who went to war to defend our freedoms, not because they wanted something in return, or expected something, but because it was the American thing to do. The adage of “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country” was in place long before President John F. Kennedy made it popular. President Kennedy was simply re-emphasizing the prevailing opinion of the time.

Ask yourself, do we not owe a special day to all the men and women who gave their lives for us; a special day to pay honor and respect for all they did?

This is not just another day out of work or school, a time to only think of ourselves, or bargains at the malls, to go on vacations or have cookouts. It’s a time to reflect on what we enjoy today as American citizens. THE TIME IS NOW to show that we really care; that we really appreciate the sacrifices they made to ensure that can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Please take the time to read General John Logan’s General Order No. 11 and understand why it was issued.

There are probably a million reasons why Memorial Day should not be restored back to its original day, May 30th, but not one of those reasons are valid.
